Groundbreaking for Build #8 March 3

Good news for the new year! Work on Build #8 will begin on March 3. Everyone is invited to attend the opening ceremony in the morning and to meet the family.

The house, at 880 Congress Avenue, will be one of four to be built in this area, near the intersection of Columbus Avenue and Ella T. Grasso Blvd. Edmarie and Alejandro Rodriquez Vendrell are the homeowners. Alejandro works at the nearby Hill Health Center.

Details will follow in February on the exact time of the groundbreaking. Habitat plans on having the house foundation in place and framing to begin on March 3. If you would like to volunteer to work on March 3, please send an email request to madisoncareshabitat@gmail.com.

We are also working with the Build Coordinators from the churches and organizations in shoreline towns to schedule work dates for groups through June. It is also likely that building will continue into this summer.

'Raise the Roof' 2012 will be on May 12!

The date has been set for this year's "Raise the Roof" event in Madison: Saturday, May 12! Thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of Raise the Roof last Spring.

Approximately 400 volunteers helped build walls and garden benches, constructed and painted porch railings and staffed the event. More than $10,000 was contributed to complete Shanna Green's home (Build #7) and to begin raising $50,000 for the next Madison Cares house. The completed porch has been placed on a Habitat home in New Haven. The walls are stored for Madison Cares 8th build, which will begin this Spring.

  Raise The Roof

Planning is under way for more building sites on the Madison Green and repeating the popular activities for youth younger than age 16 this year. Details to follow, including how local groups can schedule a time slot to work together.
